One of Elena’s professional interests is introducing the world of choral music to adults and young people through workshops.
YOUNG VOICES WORKSHOPS
As part of the Choral/Vocal Delivery Artist team within the Learning and Engagement department at Opera North Elena is a workshop Leader for Opera North´s Award Winning – KS2 Singing Project, where she works with primary school-age singers in schools in the North of England, and co-leads Continuous Professional Development training in young voices´s groups vocal leading for their school teachers.
- The Water’s Diviner’s Tale by Rachel Portman – 2022 and 2023.
- Wonderland Restored by Will Todd – 2024 and 2025.
She has co-led workshops for Opera North Family Days and Opera North Summer Camp. Projects based on children’s adaptation of the operas The Cunning Little Vixen, 2022 and The Selfish Giant, 2021.
Her work as workshop leader started in 2014 within the Choral Project Voces Blancas del Nalón in Spain, collaborating with primary schools in the Nalon´s Valley area. In 2017, she had the opportunity to work with children and young people at the Bocachica Centre for Young People in Bocachica, Dominican Republic.
ADULT VOICES CHORAL WORKSHOPS
During 2022 and 2023 she collaborated with the Cervantes Institute of Leeds in delivering termly beginner adult choral singing workshops focused on Hispanic-language based repertoire.
Elena has experience on leading one-off choral workshops for community choirs focused on a certain topic/musical theme or idea. She has delivered workshops in Leeds (UK), Oviedo (Spain), Gijón (Spain) and for Opera North’s Community Partnerships scheme.
